The Madame Chiang Project created a website utilizing a community-based history model that actively engaged members of Chinatown, past and present, in the hopes of making evident new facets of Chinese American perceptions during the 1930s and 1940s, more specially, it: (1) Created a section that provides an online tour of Chinatown that accentuates a deeper understanding of Madame Chiang Kai-Shek’s visit of Los Angeles and LA Chinatown for an online community that is still largely unaware of it; (2) Created a section that analyzed the lives of Chinatown residents studied via interviews and how their experiences added to the growth LA Chinatown perception and identity; and (3) Created a section that analyzed the change in the American perception of Chinese Americans during the 1930s and 1940s as made evident through research of newspaper databases.
